TERMS OF USE
Last Updated: 21 August 2026
1. Introduction
Welcome to Lawemporium.
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Lawemporium website, memberships, Legalin Connect, Emporium Boulevard, Doyen Facetime, community features, directories, profiles, messaging features, job-related services, educational content, products and other services made available through Lawemporium (collectively, the “Platform”).
In these Terms, “Lawemporium”, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to Lawemporium, trading as Lawemporium.
By creating an account, registering for a membership, purchasing a product or service, submitting a profile, participating in the community or otherwise using the Platform, you agree to these Terms.
If you do not agree to these Terms, you should not use the Platform.
2. Eligibility and Accounts
You must provide accurate, current and complete information when creating or maintaining an account.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for activity conducted through your account.
You must promptly notify us if you believe your account has been accessed or used without your authorisation.
You must not impersonate another person, create a misleading identity, provide false professional or academic credentials, or create an account on behalf of another person without appropriate authority.
Certain features may require additional eligibility, membership or verification requirements.
3. Memberships
Lawemporium may offer free and paid membership plans with different features, benefits and eligibility requirements.
The price, duration, billing frequency and benefits applicable to a membership will be displayed on the Platform before purchase.
Where a membership renews automatically, you authorise the applicable payment provider to process recurring payments in accordance with the subscription selected by you.
You may cancel a recurring subscription through the cancellation mechanisms made available to you. Cancellation ordinarily prevents future renewals and does not automatically result in a refund for a membership period already supplied, subject to our Refund Policy and applicable law.
If an initial paid membership transaction fails, Lawemporium may retain the user’s account under an available Basic membership rather than deleting the account. The user may subsequently retry the payment or purchase another eligible membership.
4. Legalin Connect
Legalin Connect provides profiles and directory functionality intended to facilitate professional discovery, networking and connection within the legal community.
Users may be required to identify themselves as a legal professional or law student and provide information relevant to that classification.
Professional users may be asked to provide information concerning their professional enrolment, organisation, practice areas, location and related professional information.
Student users may be asked to provide information concerning their institution, student status, areas of interest, expected graduation and supporting verification information.
You must not knowingly provide false, fraudulent, misleading or materially incomplete information.
5. Profile Verification
Lawemporium may verify professional or student information before assigning a verification status to a profile.
Verification means only that Lawemporium has carried out the verification process applicable to the profile at the relevant time.
Verification is not an endorsement, recommendation, warranty or guarantee of a person’s competence, character, integrity, suitability, professional standing, academic standing or services.
We may request additional information where reasonably necessary to complete or review verification.
Verification status may be changed, suspended or withdrawn where information becomes inaccurate, unverifiable or inconsistent with Platform requirements.
6. Profiles and Directory Information
Certain information submitted to Lawemporium may be displayed publicly or to eligible Platform users through Legalin profiles and directories.
Depending on the applicable profile and access settings, this may include your:
-
- name and profile photograph;
-
- professional or student classification;
-
- professional title or organisation;
-
- practice areas or areas of interest;
-
- institution;
-
- location; and
-
- verification status.
Documents submitted solely for verification are not intended to become part of your public profile merely because they were submitted to Lawemporium.
You are responsible for ensuring that information you provide for publication is accurate and appropriate for disclosure.
7. Paid Profile Access
Certain profile information or contact functionality may require payment or other access rights.
Purchasing profile access grants only the access described at the time of purchase.
It does not transfer ownership of profile information, create a lawyer-client or other professional relationship, or permit scraping, republication, resale, bulk collection or commercial exploitation of profile information.
You must not circumvent access controls or attempt to obtain restricted profile information without authorisation.
8. Community Features
Lawemporium may provide community circles, discussions, posts, comments and other social or collaborative features.
You must not use these features to publish or transmit content that:
-
- is unlawful, fraudulent, threatening, abusive or defamatory;
-
- constitutes harassment or impersonation;
-
- unlawfully infringes intellectual-property or privacy rights;
-
- discloses confidential information without authority;
-
- contains malware or harmful code;
-
- constitutes spam or unauthorised mass advertising;
-
- deliberately disseminates materially false or misleading information; or
-
- materially disrupts the Platform or other users.
Lawemporium may moderate, restrict, lock or remove content where reasonably necessary to enforce these Terms, protect users, maintain the Platform or comply with applicable law.
9. Connections and Private Messaging
Eligible users may communicate through Lawemporium’s member-to-member connection and messaging features.
Messaging must not be used for harassment, fraud, spam, unsolicited mass marketing or unlawful activity.
Users should not assume that electronic communications are absolutely confidential or immune from technical processing, security measures, lawful disclosure requirements or investigation of reported misconduct.
10. Marketplace
Lawemporium may sell or facilitate access to physical and digital products, including books, compendiums, Doyen FaceTime, webinars and other educational or professional resources.
Material product information, applicable prices and purchase conditions will be displayed before purchase.
Physical goods may be subject to delivery charges and geographical restrictions.
Digital products may be delivered through online access, download or another method specified on the relevant product page.
11. Doyen FaceTime, Webinars and Educational Content
Doyen FaceTime, webinars, recordings and other educational materials are provided for educational and informational purposes.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, purchasing or receiving access grants you a limited, personal, non-exclusive and non-transferable right to use the relevant content.
You must not reproduce, record, distribute, resell, publicly display, share access credentials for, or commercially exploit protected educational content without appropriate authorisation.
12. Jobs and Opportunities
Lawemporium may provide job listings and professional opportunities.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, Lawemporium is not the employer, recruiter or agent of organisations posting third-party opportunities.
Users are responsible for independently assessing job listings, prospective employers and applicants.
Lawemporium does not guarantee employment, interview selection, compensation, suitability of an applicant or the accuracy of information supplied by a third-party employer.
13. No Legal Advice or Lawyer-Client Relationship
Lawemporium provides a technology, information, educational, networking and professional-development platform.
Content available through the Platform does not constitute legal advice from Lawemporium.
Viewing a Legalin profile, unlocking contact information, communicating with another member, attending a Doyen FaceTime or webinar, or accessing educational content does not by itself create a lawyer-client relationship.
Persons requiring legal advice should obtain advice appropriate to their particular circumstances from a suitably qualified legal practitioner.
14. Payments
Payments may be processed through third-party payment providers, including Paystack.
Lawemporium does not ordinarily receive or store complete payment-card credentials where those details are entered directly into a payment provider’s secure payment environment.
A payment attempt is not considered successfully completed merely because a transaction has been initiated.
Access to paid memberships, products or services may depend upon confirmation of successful payment.
15. Intellectual Property
The Platform and its original branding, graphics, software, designs, educational materials and other proprietary materials are owned by or licensed to Lawemporium and protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.
Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of Lawemporium intellectual property to you.
You retain ownership of content you submit, subject to a limited licence allowing Lawemporium to host, store, process, reproduce and display that content as reasonably necessary to provide and operate the services you request.
16. Prohibited Activities
You must not:
-
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Platform;
-
- circumvent membership, payment or profile-access controls;
-
- systematically scrape or harvest directory information without permission;
-
- interfere with Platform security or availability;
-
- introduce malicious software;
-
- misuse another user’s account;
-
- fraudulently obtain paid content or services;
-
- falsely represent professional or academic credentials; or
-
- use information obtained through the Platform for unlawful purposes.
17. Suspension and Termination
We may restrict, suspend or terminate an account where reasonably necessary because of a material breach of these Terms, suspected fraud, unlawful activity, false verification information, serious or repeated community violations, security concerns, misuse of another person’s information, or legal or regulatory requirements.
Where appropriate and reasonably practicable, we may provide notice or an opportunity to address the issue.
18. Platform Availability
We endeavour to maintain a reliable Platform but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free availability.
We may maintain, modify, replace or discontinue features where reasonably necessary.
Changes affecting paid services will be handled in accordance with applicable law and any applicable contractual obligations.
19. Limitation of Liability
To the extent permitted by applicable law, Lawemporium will not be liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising solely from use of the Platform.
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limits mandatory rights or remedies available to consumers under applicable Nigerian law.
20. Refunds
Refunds, returns and cancellations are governed by our Refund Policy.
Nothing in these Terms or our Refund Policy limits any mandatory consumer right or remedy available under applicable law.
21. Privacy and Cookies
Our handling of personal data is described in our Privacy Policy.
Our use of cookies and similar technologies is described in our Cookie Policy.
22. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms where necessary to reflect changes to the Platform, applicable law, regulation or our business practices.
Where changes are material, we will take reasonable steps to notify affected users.
23. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Disputes relating to these Terms or the Platform are subject to the jurisdiction of the competent courts of Nigeria, without prejudice to any statutory right to seek redress through an appropriate regulator, tribunal or other mechanism.
